VPP Operator

VPP operators can work with a variety of residential and C&I members. The greater the amount of behind the meter storage, generation and smart devices in the portfolio the more options the operator will have to benefit the local grid or provide resources into the market.

In mature markets or markets with large numbers of behind the meter devices there may be more than one virtual power plant provider. Consumers could participate with multiple providers controlling single devices or a single provider controlling multiple devices. The options are only limited by the amount of controllable devices behind the meter and the number of VPP operators interested in the market. In these situations a clearinghouse would need to be created by the state or regional market to ensure the competing VPPs do not inadvertently work against one another and cause grid disruptions.
